When singer M.I.A. Flipped 'The Bird' it frustrated many people who think it was inappropiate.
ReplyDeleteWhen singer M.I.A. flipeed 'the bird' it frustrated many people who think it was innapropiate. It also brought up lots of questions. Like if it is still as bad as it used to be? Some people say now that it is "part of the mainstream of American culture". In my opinion it is not that bad because it is used more. It also isnt as offencive anymore.
When singer M.I.A flipped "The Bird" during the super bowl halftime show it upset many people because they think the gesture is obscene.
ReplyDeleteWhen singer M.I.A flipped "The Bird" during the super bowl halftime show, it was an overreaction because it is a "part of mainstream American culture." The gesture brought up many questions and people going to her defense. Some say it was intended to be a phallic symbol but that has changed. The symbol sends a message of rage or frustration. But when M.I.A did it, it was a display of modern American culture. In my opinion, as the gesture is used more frequently it has toned down the severity of the meaning.
The singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" it confused infuriated the people who thought that was not right or people the take offensive easily.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard the Singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" I thought it was a common thing that singers do in performance. I am alright with it because I don't think that the singer was pointing "the bird" at us. People might get frustrated because they were watching the performance live. If I was there I would have been frustrated too. So I think that what people react to that is normal.
When singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" people thought it was very obscene and very offensive.
ReplyDeleteWhen singers, actors, or anyone in general would flip "the bird" people would be very offended and thought it was very obscene. But today, people are thinking very differently. People say it has different meaning today because so many people use it at will. It is just a mainstream in the American culture. I think that M.I.A flipping "the bird" is not at all offensive and don't see why people got so offended. I believe they overreacted because it is part of freedom of speech. You're speaking your mind and you can say or do what you want.
The singer M.I.A flipped "The Bird" it made many people upset the people who thought it was "wrong" do do that during the half time show.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read that the singer M.I.A flipped "The Bird" I had some mix feelings. At first i was shocked. This made me shocked because people that are preforming should not do that. Then again everyone has seen it done. Or has done it at some point in time! I also think that it is unfair that if famous people do something wrong that they are a bad person. All in all, I have mixed feeling because are going to see or do it at some point. THen again it wasn't right to do it in concert.
When singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" it upset many people in the crowd and many people watching.
ReplyDeleteWhen i heard singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" i didn't really think that much of it because it is a very common thing. It doesn't surprise me though that many people got offended by it. People could take someone flipping "the bird" many ways. I think that it was an ok thing to do unless the singer was using it to purposely offend people. I say that if you are not using it to offend people then its ok.
The article is about that flipping the bird isn't obscene anymore. But a Law Professor argues that it is.
ReplyDeleteWhen M.I.A. was "flipping the bird" many people didn't think it was offensive. I agree with the Law Professor that it is still very offensive. I believe this because I have my own faith and beliefs. It isn't right to "flip the bird" in front of millions of people to see. Again my faith is the reason why I don't think it is right.
Singer M.I.A. "flipped the bird" at a super bowl half time show, and the confused audience believed that it was not appropriate.
ReplyDeleteUpon hearing about the actions of the singer M.I.A., who "flipped the bird" in front of a super bowl audience of 114,000,000 I felt that it was a common act of singers to do in their performances. Although I do also feel that it was an inappropriate gesture, given the types of people in the audience. But I don't feel like it was intentionally directed to a specific person(s), but more a part of the show itself.
When M.i.a "fliped the bird" at the super bowl, she left many people confused.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion to this gesture is that, MIA probably just did the gesture as part of the stage performance. Or maybe MIA thought since the common people indirectly use the gesture that no one would care if she "flipped the hawk" at the Super Bowl. If I was at the performance, I would have been inraged too. But, if it was just a part of her stage performance, I have no problem with it. But, there is no way to support either portrayal of "flipping the hawk". I have a 50/50 thought on the subject as well since it is undecided.
Singer M.I.A gave the bird during the halftime of the Super Bowl. Giving the finger 114,000,000 people. The middle finger dated back 2,500 years ago. The finger was a phallic symbol. The inputs finger was named dictus putues. The middle finger is consider illegal in most state. People can sue for as much as $ 50,000. Professor of law and justice thinks the dancing was more often than the middle finger.
ReplyDeleteThe American people were disgusted by the actions of M.I.A. when she Flipped them “The Bird”.
ReplyDeleteThe American people were disgusted by the actions of M.I.A. when she Flipped them “The Bird”. Some people say its part of "part of the mainstream of American culture." I think that it is part of everyday life. The symbol sends a message of "frustration, rage, anger, or protest. I think that she was trying to look cool. Its used every day so I think that it has toned down the meaning
When singer M.I.A. "flipped the bird" at the super bowl halftime show at the Superbowl in february, she upset many people who find this gesture obscene.
ReplyDeleteAfter I read about M.I.A. "flipping the bird" at the Super Bowl, I don't really mind that she did it because I think that that certain gesture has been used too much and now doesn't really have any really meaning to it. I feel like it was an inappropriate gesture to make a huge public event but I was not offended by it because, in my opinion, has almost zero meaning to it. People use it all the time and more of a "I'm just really mad at you right now" sorta thing than what we are really are told that it is supposed to mean. I get how some people can be offended by it, but I don't think that she was directing it toward anyone in particular, more just a part of the act. It still wasn't an ok thing to do at the super bowl with millions watching, but I myself was not offended by this gesture she had made.
When entertainer M.I.A. flipped "The Bird" at a super bowl halftime show, it started a big thing with whats wrong and whats right.
ReplyDeleteWhen entertainer M.I.A. gave the "Bird" on public television many people saw it and there are mix feeling on it. In my opinion doing this is wrong even though she might have been trying to show representation of modern America of a symbol from a long time ago its still flipping off people. Although the "Bird" has lost some of its meaning it still, today can offend many people.
When M.I.A flipped "The Bird" at the super bowl half time show in front of millions of people. It started a big whats wrong and whats right.
ReplyDeleteWhen M.IA. flipped the bird on television many people were shocked and many may have not been. But flipping the bird can have many affects on certain people. But the bird may have not been as bad a couple years ago but its still wrong and can offend many people.
M.I.A causes a controversy when wile singing at the super bowl halftime show flipped the crowed "the bird".
ReplyDeleteWhen M.I.A "flips the bird" at the super bowl halftime it offends many people. It didn't really phase me though. I can see why some people got upset but it's really common and most people will run into it at some point of there life. I think it was made into something bigger then it should have been. We here and see much more foul things in life then a raper flashing a finger.
Rapper* my bad.
DeleteWhen singer M.I.A flipped "the bird" it caused many mixed emotions throughout all football fans!
ReplyDeleteI can see why people got upset when she "flipped the bird" but in my oppion it isn't that big of a deal! I mean even if a little kid was watching it then the parent can teach their child that that's not ok. It wont prevent them from doing it in their teenage/ young adult time but it can stop them from getting in trouble when their young for not knowing what it means! Plus most of the people watching the Superbowl are mature enough to know when to use that properly! If you even look on at the article there's a poll and most people said it doesn't bother them!
In the article "Flipping the Bird" by NPR it explains how when MIA "flipped the bird" it caused many mixed emotions throughout all football fans!
DeleteWhen M.I.A started a trend called "flipping the bird" it started to get around to people who starting questioning whats wrong and right
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gloria because people tend to make a bigger deal out of small situations though, he M.I.A did take his anger out on something silly. It could offend many people though, especially parents with younger children in the stands.
This NPR broadcast is about whether M.I.A.'s "flipping the bird"is to be considered and obscene hand gesture or not and whether it is appropriate.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this broadcast is very shocked. When M.I.A stuck up her middle finger, it was shown to millions of viewers nation wide. That hand gesture is most commonly known as an obscenity. The talk show hosts can argue that it is not obscene but it is a big problem. It offends many people. Having someone do it on television is even worse. In conclusion i believe that what M.I.A. did was wrong and that "flipping the bird" is and should be considered as an obscene hand gesture.
At last years super bowl the singer M.I.A. was singing a song "The Bird" and then at some part in the song she flipped the bird that the super bowl and some people were mad that she did that
ReplyDeleteDuring the half time show when M.I.A was singing "The Bird" and flipped the bird every one went in to a overreaction to this. The flipping of the bird was probably was a pliability stunt so she could start something new with future singers. People need to know that this in modern singing of America. Will reading there is a bare that tells you how many people are upset and not upset there are more not upset people then people that are. In my opinion I really don't mind that she did flip the bird.
When M.I.A "Flipped the Bird," it angered many people.
ReplyDeleteDuring the NFL half time show, M.I.A. "Flipped the Bird" at the crowd. I think it was very rude because it means something else. People do not want a singer to be a bad role model for kids and teens. She should have never done it because it was offensive to many people and I believe it hurt her reputation. In my opinion I think the "Flip the Bird" was an awful idea.
On the site of NPR, Mark Memmott writes about signer M.I.A. as she “ Flipped the Bird”, which upset a lot of people at super bowl XLVIII.
ReplyDeleteOnce I read and listen to the artical about M.I.A. “Flipping the Bird” at the super bowl in 2013, I did not find it the gesture to be that big of a deal. I believe this because now the gesture is more frequently used and is not taken as offensively. This is because in our generation this motion is apart of our culture. I do on the other hand understand why parents would be offended because their children do not need to be seeing that. But the parents should also understand that that is the time period that their children will be growing up in. All in all I believe that M.I.A.’s gesture is not a s big of a deal as they are making this into.
When M.I.A performed at the NFL half time show, she "flipped the bird" in front of million of people, many people had different mixed emotions.
ReplyDeleteWhen M.I.A "flipped the bird" I did think it was obscene because even though I don't mind when people do that celebrities still shouldn't do that, especially on national TV. Celebrities have to set a higher influence for younger kids. Families watch the NFL half time every year so having M.I.A "flip the bird" on TV, millions of kids are watching her perform. Kids could think it's okay to "flip the bird" too. Overall, I just think "flipping the bird" isn't okay on TV.
During the Super Bowl half time show, many people were bewildered when, singer M.I.A "Flipped the Bird" on national in front of thousands of people.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading "Flipping the Bird" I had a few mixed emotions. First, I was shocked that a someone would even do that in front of thousands of people. Then, I began to think more about the culture of young people these days. It isn't rare nowadays to see young people doing things that were once not expectable in society. Different people most likely reacted differently, younger people most likely thought it was fine or even cool that this happened, and older people like mothers and fathers probably reacted differently thinking it was wrong and they that they don't want they children exposed to that type of behavior. This is certainly a controversial event and gesture but I think that "flipping the bird" is not as big of a deal because of the way that society is now.
At the Super Bowl halftime show singer M.I.A "Flipped the Bird" in front of a crowd mad up of 114 million people on live television.
ReplyDeleteWhen I listened to the article about M.I.A " Flipping the Bird " at the Super Bowl half time show I immediately thought that was a very inappropriate thing to do in front of such a big crowd. I think this because she had no good reason to do that even though it is apparently part of the mainstream media. This gesture is just very offensive to most people and should't have been done in front of a audience that size.Even though this gesture should't be making this much breaking news but it is still a very idiotic thing to do at such a huge event like the Super Bowl that many people even children watch.
In the article " Flipping the Bird " by npr tells how singer M.I.A flips off a crowd of 14 million on live television.
DeleteAt the Super Bowl halftime show the performer M.I.A "flipped the bird" at thousands of kids and family's. The seen was captured on live Tv where even more saw it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I finished reading this artical "Flipping the bird" about M.I.A performing at the Super Bowl halftime show I thought it was very immature and inappropriate for someone to do that in front of kids. This was made into a very big deal and even though the gesture was very offensive to some people and inappropriate to some others it may not matter to others. Others may not think anything about it ,but it was still a very stupid thing to do in front of that many people and on TV.
When rapper M.I.A. "Flipped the bird", it caused much unwanted controversy regarding the people who witnessed the action.
ReplyDeleteAfter M.I.A. "Flipped the bird" at the 1012 Super Bowl halftime show, it created a riot of viewer appropriation. The rapper may have caused unwanted reactions but the sign is sometimes not used at or to someone in an offensive way. I believe this because the "norm" for people in her genre can be different from others "norm". I'm sure that she used the sign without thinking because it doesn't really mean anything to her, so she didn't stop to think twice. I'm sure M.I.A. realized what a terrible thing she did for all viewers to see and feels really bad. At least now she has learned her mistake and won't ever make it again. Although M.IA. "Flipped the bird" to millions of people, i believe she had no intension of an offense.
At the super bowl M.I.A. "flipped the bird" creating much controversy throughout America questioning if it means what it used to.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the article regarding the singer M.I.A. "flipping the bird" to a huge crowd of family and children, not to mention the home viewers, it created many questions for me regarding if "flipping the bird" was an appropriate action to do at a live event in front of millions of viewers. Some such as Ira Robbins believe the symbol has changed into a symbol of rage which I strongly agree with. That does not, however, change the fact that it was an inappropriate action to do at the Super Bowl. The singer M.I.A. was displaying her feelings of "rage or anger or protest" according to professor Robbins. There are still many that take the symbol as what it used to mean in the past. The symbols of life change, such as how the Swastika is now a near forbidden symbol while in the past is was the sign of a political party, it is offensive to the world today but in the past may have been agreed with by many. I also believe "flipping the bird" has changed a lot over the days.
In the story "flipping the Bird" the story illustrates and provides examples on how the middle finger is obsolete.
ReplyDeleteI thought "Flipping the Bird" a very compelling story because it went so far deep in the topic of the middle finger being used. It explained how the middle finger is so commonly used that know one cares when someone does it, and I have to agree with that. I think this story is true that a middle finger is not that big of a deal anymore because so many people "flip the bird" on the daily. But i also believe that M.I.A should not have done it during the half time show because it's not a good example to younger people. Therefor it's a big deal and not a bid deal at the same time.
When the singer of the band M.I.A. did the action known as "flipping the bird" during the super bowl halftime show, it offended many people who were not expecting it or knowing what it was directed towards.
ReplyDeleteWhen the singer did this "offending act" as some call it, it quite literally did that; offend people. It was confusing for the children, family, and other viewers of the show, for they did not know what it was to be directed towards. It brought up a lot of questions about how the rude gesture has changes as we progress through the 21st century. Nowadays it has become a very general gesture, sometimes not even used in anger or rudeness. But some people still think it should be a gesture never used but in extreme anger or frustration, which brought up a lot of problems and opinions, some rather bad, towards the M.I.A. singer. I personally do not think it as a big deal besides the fact that she directed the "bird" towards children and families, which also angered and made it a big deal to lots of the viewers at the game and at home.
"Flipping the Bird" by NPR describes how the rapper M.I.A. caused controversy when she flipped the bird at the halftime show of the Superbowl.
ReplyDeleteWhen M.I.A. "flipped the bird" at the half time show of the Superbowl she offended a lot of people. I think that she was just living in the moment and not thinking about what other people would say about her "flipping the bird". Also I think she didn't realize that just the people in the crowd to see her but pretty much all of america could see her "flipping the bird". NPR however thinks that M.I.A. "flipped the bird" out of hate or rage and she must hate everyone in the crowd.
Flipping the bird by NPR declared very unwanted controversy regarding to the people who witnessed the unpleasant action
ReplyDeleteduring the halftime of the super bowl the rapper MIA flipped the bird and showed millions of people an adolescent action. when i read the article i was not that offended because i have seen the actions many times. But i think that the people that were watching the super bowl were offended because they had their young children with them. Also in the article it says that the middle finger is used so much that no one cares when someone does it. I personally do not care when someone flips the bird because its a common thing that everyone does. However when MIA flipped the bird it was done in front of millions of people. Flipping someone off has definitely changed over the years. Its kind of a not a big deal but, at the same time it kind of also is. People do it so much that it is so commonly used it turned into bad influence on little kids. I would not want little kids to see the things like that because then they pick it up and show it to their friends and younger siblings. That way it keeps passing and turns into a big deal.
" Flipping the bird" by NPR Illiterates that during the half time show a "offence" was shown by the action of the middle finger being shown.
ReplyDeleteDuring the half time show MIA Showed a disturbing action to millions of people. After reading this article It did not bother me i did not feel like it was offence-of at all because i have seen it before does not mean that it was offence-of to me It might have been to many other people. I believe that it could have been a part of her show but it might not have been. Its not really my call but if it was me on this case i would have said that it was just a gester and nothing more it did not mean anything bad of mean. That is my view on this situation.
