  1. In the story "To Build A Fire" by Jack London The story teaches us about the faults of humanity by humans don't see the value of nature and other things like they are supposed to.

The story "To Build A Fire" teaches us to look differently at everything. In the story a man is sitting out in the freezing weather in Alaska. He has to withstand -75 degree weather. He sits in the freezing cold with only little of food. He has to understand that his mind has to be stronger than his body. I think that this story teaches you that your mind is the most powerful part of you. What he is trying to do is fight off what his body is telling him so that he can be mentally aware. He wants to find the peace with in himself. This story teaches us to look at everything in a positive way. If he had a positive attitude about his situation do you think he would of been dead? I think so because it doesn't matter what your body thinks its all mental state. He is trying to over come that state of mentality so he is stronger than his consciousness.

  2. The story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows faults in humanity because he starts to think that he cant make it near the end. In the last few pages he starts to give up and thinks that their is no point in trying anymore. He thinks that he will not make it to the town and will not get to see his friends. "Freezing was not so bad a people thought. There were lots of worse ways to die." If he would have kept going and made an attempt he would have had a good chance to survive but how humans think that giving up is a possibility is definitely a flaw.

  3. The story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows the faults in humanity because he thinks he can conquer the land. The man in the story says that he laugh at the old man that is giving him advice that might save his life. He thinks that he is better than everyone else and that he can do what ever he wants. Although he has a dog with him to help him in his travels he makes the dog go first with the risk of the dog falling through the ice. This is selfish of him. He would rather stay warm than have the dog staying warm. Through out the entire story it displays the faults that humanity has.

  4. The story "To Build A Fire" by Jack London shows faults in humanity because the foreigner comes to Alaska to meet up with his friends in a mine shaft in a cold dark day. In the beginning of the story the man was taught by a old man on how to survive but laugh at the old man. As the adventure of the man and the dog going out side at -75 degree he puts the dog in front so that the dog can take all the risk on falling into the ice. Later on the story as the man is relighting the fire the man envies the dog's warmth on how it's warm only by his fur.

In the story the man laugh at the old man that was giving him advice that could have save him in many situation. Also he starts to think he can't make it near the end. By the end of the story he starts to give up. If he had kept on going there was a large chance of him to make it to the end. This shows the thinking of us.

  6. "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows us the faults of humanity in the form of stupidity and foolishness. One way is that the man thought that he could go out in the Alaskan wilderness at the worst time of the year and get to the mining camp. He is not from Alaska, so he doesn't know just how harsh it can get. A old man that lives there in the cold told him to not go out and do it, but the man still did, despite the old timers words. This just shows that he was stupid in not listening to the veteran of the Alaskan woods's words. Another example is on page 11. It says that "Then the man drowsed off into what seemed to him the most comfortable and satisfying sleep he had ever known." When out in the cold, It is essential that you don't stop and take a rest unless you have a way of heating yourself as you rest, such as a fire. What this man did, was not build a fire and just give up on everything. If he would have built a fire, he could have heated himself up as he rested, and he wouldn't have died. He disregarded the old timers words, and he died for it. This example shows us that we need to not be foolish and disregarding because we will pay the price for it someday. All in all, the story "To Build A Fire," by Jack London, show us the faults of humanity in the form of stupidity and foolishness.

  7. In the story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows us how humans can be full of faults through the characteristics of stupidity and courageousness. I think that the man in the story is very courageous for going out into the Yukon in Alaska, where the temperature can go below 75 under zero and has only a limited time of sun light a day. The man in the story braved the conditions that mother nature threw at him and I feel like his courageousness got him killed in the end because he thought he could win the battle of man vs. nature. The man was stupid to go out into the freezing air to meet his buddies without a partner to help each other survive. The man tries to build a fire after he falls into some cold river water and he does, but in the wrong spot where the fire is burnet out and it was because it was made under a tree full of snow. That is another reason that the man shows stupidity. He cost himself his own life because he was being arrogant. After many attempts, he fails to build another and is forced to run around to stay warm. He can't make it to the camp so he just lays down into a very deep sleep and dies peacefully. Page 11 states how he died in these words, "Then the man drowsed off into what seemed to him the most comfortable and satisfying sleep he had ever known." In the story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London I think that the faults of humanity are demonstrated through courageousness and stupidity.

  8. "To Build a Fire" tells a lot about the fault of humanity, as the man makes many mistakes, but corrects himself, and makes many faults such as not listening to the old timer, but in the end realizes he should have taken the advice of the wise. Many other faults such as the foolishness or bravery aspects of the story are represented throughout, as the man makes all human mistakes, but learns greatly from them in the end.

  9. I think "To Build a Fire," teaches us that humans think they can do anything and have no consequences. This man thought he could get himself lost in the wild and be just fine in freezing weather. He wanted to make it to his boys' without any problems. When you want to mess with nature, it will get revenge on you. Like in the story, he wanted to rush bu the fell through ice. Then some snow fell on his fire. The coldness was also freezing him to death. This man thought he could outsmart nature, but in reality, no one can. If you can't beat nature, work with it. This man is at major fault for doing what he did. It was foolish and really dumb.

  10. The short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows the faults of humanity because the foolishness the man shows that he thinks he can do what most people cant and instead he trapped and realized he made a very foolish move through what he thought was courageous. The man is determined to travel to the boys and when he finds himself caught and and cant build a fire or move his hands. On page 8. the quote " He beat his hands, but failed in exciting any sensation," shows that the man realizes that his hands are now frozen and he has lost them and since he has traveled in the extreme cold with out a partner he realizes his foolishness. The man tries to think of a way to survive and thinks of killing the dog to stay warm but realizes that was foolish because he cant even move his hands to hold a knife or throttle the dog. The man realizes his fate and the foolishness of not taking the old mans words into advice and then knows he will die from his foolishness and submits to the cold and falls into a never waking sleep.

  11. In “To build a Fire” by Jack London shows the reader the faults of humanity by talking to us about the foolishness and bravery encountered throughout the story. In the story it talked about how he had fault by being foolish. This part can be seen on the bottom of page 8 when it states “He remember the tale of the men, caught in the blizzard who killed a steer who crawled inside the carcass and so he was saved. He would kill the dog and bury his hands inside the warm body until the numbness what out of them and then he could build another fire”. This shows that he is foolish because who would have the thoughts and motivations to kill a dog to keep warm. This story also shows how the faults of humanity can show bravery on page 7 the second paragraph. It states “Then he grew very calm”. This shows his bravery because even though he was in a though situation he stated and remained calm. Overall, in the story “To build a Fire” by Jack London shows the reader the faults of humanity by talking to us about the foolishness and bravery encountered throughout the story.

  12. In the story "To Build a Fire," by Jack London shows the fault of humanity because it demonstrates both the foolishness and braveness by the main character in the story. The man struggles as he goes through the wild in freezing weather where he is trying to reach his boys in time. The man is brave because he does show braveness for going into the wild by himself in the first place and risking his own life. But he shows a lot of foolishness because the man is traveling with only a dog and a very small lunch. He was also not properly prepared to travel with conditions like these, and he did not know how to keep the fire going. He was starting to freeze to death because he kept making constant mistakes, "He should not have built the fire under the spruce tree. He should have built it in the open," this was a mistake that cost him a lot of time. He was brave yet more foolish. Overall, in "To Build a Fire" by Jack London the faults of humanity are demonstrated mainly by the foolishness by the man in the story.

  13. In the short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London it shows the faults in humanity because we think that we can cheat death anywhere. In the story there was a part where it said that he laughed at the medicine man for telling him good advise that could potentially save his life. But he thinks that he is over death and the cold an practically ignores the man. Although the dog in the story is only a tool he uses he would kill it just to heat up his hand for a little while to start a fire that he had clumsily put out by snow falling on it. In the end it shows how the man kept on running away from death but in the end it caught up to him and killed him and his mind while throughout the story the dogs instincts and natural survival save him thought the story. It goes to show how Jack London thinks that instinct is better than human thought.

  14. In the short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack Landon it shows humanity because we think that we can do stuff to the extreme but we really can't. In the story a man is walking across Alaska. But while he does this he has consequences. While he is walking it gets down to -75 degrees so when he was building his fire to warm his shoes and himself he put it the wrong place, then snow fell on the fire off the tree and put it out. This is showing how you chooses can effect you.

  15. The short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London depicts the faults in humanity because it elaborates on humans braveness and equal foolishness. In the story a man is traveling trough Alaska with his dog to get to his friends. Rather than taking a sled he decides that he will be "brave" and walk. This could be looked at as brave or foolish, but most would think of this as foolish. Humans would rather be considered brave over being practical. This is a flaw because humans become overwhelmed by appearance and what others will think, that they forget that it is also important to use brains and think things through before they do drastic things.

  16. In the short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack Landon shows how humanity is collapsing by a guy going out in -75 degree weather. He willingly goes out in extremely cold weather just because humanity ruins lives. He doesn't want to be with anyone but himself and maybe a few friends. It shows how choices can make or break you.

  17. "To Build A Fire" by Jack Landon illustrates the faults of humanity by showing us that man is foolish. The man from to build a fire is foolish throughout the story. He builds his fire under the trees, even though an old man told him that this was a bad idea. This quote from the man "Build your fire out in the open, as to not let tree snow fall on it" shows that the man does not pay attention to what hes told. These are the faults of humanity displayed in "To Build a Fire".

  18. The story "To Build a Fire" teaches us of the faults of humanity because of how the story ends. Most people ,when taking the path they choose, follow through or plan ahead with the dangers of what might happen on a certain journey. When the man is near the end of the path and on his way to his two boys he just falls down and gives up. He lays there to die as I presume the dog goes to his village to find help for the man. We won't ever know what happens to the man but humans need to be prepared for what is expected to come.

  19. In the short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, shows faults in humanities because, when the main character enters the Alaskan wilderness. This man shows that humans are stubborn because, he walks in -75 degree weather and consumes all of his food the first chance he gets to eat. Humanity shares the same fault because almost all humans feel that they can do whatever they want and, that they can do anything. But the stubbornness of the man catches up to him and the man dies.

Possibly all the generations of his ancestry had been ignorant of cold, of real cold, of cold one hundred and seven degrees below freezing-point."

And he laughed at him at the time!

  25. Question : Is the man foolish or brave?

I would say that the man is brave because because he has been in the wilderness and surviving and has not given up. He is brave because is he going out in the freezing cold in the wilderness of Alaska. This is showing that he is gutsy because no one would want to do what he is doing. This is showing to the others who he really is. Going out and staying out in the wilderness at night for a long time and surviving out there.
